High Performers do great work - at work. Their output is insightful, thoughtful, creative, solution and client focused. In a word, it's 'Professional'. But outside of work, when we are ourselves are the client, then somehow it's amateur hour. Somehow we just accept a lower, 'amateur' standard of decision-making, management and care for ourselves. We work to systematically and sustainably help people close that gap.
We teach people how to become the CEOs of themselves.
This is the key to Sustainable Performance and to closing the Cobbler's Kids gap. It's how you 'Go Pro'.
This is a drawing of the former 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza in New York. The CEO & Board work on the top, 60th Floor. Down on the 3rd Floor for instance, people work non-stop, immersed in the everyday. We teach people to think of themselves as 1 Chase Plaza. In a lightweight but structured and consistent way, people learn to step back from the every day, to go to their own 60th Floor. Here they function as CEO of Self, looking at the Strategic, Tactical & Pastoral (Self-Care). By building this habit and executive capacity they are able to harness those great, professional work skills and apply them to themselves. As a result, they make better, more intentional decisions, take better care of themselves and sustainably perform.
Our formula for Sustainable Performance.
Everything is raised- or lowered- to the power of self-management.
It takes no skill to burn out - but it takes tremendous skill to avoid it. Sustainable Performance is about enabling highly driven people to operate at high levels for extended periods of time. People have this raw talent and they often manifest it in solving work challenges - such as design an approach to maximise the long-term performance of a Client's complex piece of machinery. We train people in creating the space, structure, skills and tools to do the same for themselves. We follow a general formula for Sustainable Performance. To us it is a function of a person's ability to consistently care for their Total Health (including mental, physical and spiritual) and to develop and hone their core work skills and behaviours. But beyond this we have found that a person's level of intentionality is critical. It can be 'Purpose' in the sense of mission, but more fundamentally it is about intentionality, which can only flow from heads-up decision-making. Self-Compassion is what enables resilience and without which Sustainable Performance is just not possible.
But most importantly, all these elements are either raised- or lowered- to the power of Management. It is that executive self-management, that becoming the CEO of Self, that creates Sustainable Performance
